A few weeks back, Frank and I went away without Milo to New York City. This was the first time in over 2 years that we had an “adults only” vacation. Boy did we forget how easy it was to travel without a toddler! Milo slept over at Frank’s parents, and his cousins were in from Florida, so he got to spend some quality cousin bonding time with them.
We had our carry ons packed the night before (yes carry ons!) No big suitcases to check in, or strollers, or car seats, or diaper bags, or toys. Just an easy carry on. We woke up bright and early, got ready and had a quick bite to eat before heading out the door to the airport. We arrived, went through security and customs, and on our way to the gate to relax before boarding the plane. So stress free, no tantrums to deal with, and no worries that a certain someone would rip everything off of the shelves at duty free…
On the plane we are able to watch a movie, or a tv show without any interruptions, not get food or drinks smeared all over us, or chase Milo up and down the plane. We got to sit back, relax and enjoy the flight for the first time in a while! After a quick 55 minute flight, we arrived at La Guardia Airport, disembarked the plane and off in a cab we were to our hotel. We stayed at Hotel Indigo in the Lower East Side. Which by the way has a fabulous roof top pool and bar to lounge in and take in the breathtaking views of the city.
Around the corner is the famous Katz’s Deli where you can get a hand carved pastrami sandwich which are so delicious! A quick and easy dinner! One sandwich is definitely enough to share for two! Up the street from there is Russ and Daughters where you can get many varieties of hand sliced lox (smoked salmon) fresh bagels, coffee, orange juice. Perfect for a quick and portable breakfast!!
We spent most of the day walking around and shopping. We met friends for lunch, then went back to the hotel to take an afternoon dip in the pool and nap and met up with friends for dinner. We rented bikes and cycled around Central Park. We were on no specific schedule, we did what we pleased, no rules to follow but most of all we missed Milo!!
Over the course of the three days away, we facetimed with Milo to see what he was up to. He was having way too much fun with his Bubbie and Zaida and cousins to miss us. But when we arrived home to pick him up, he ran over to us and screamed, “Papa! Dada!” and hugged us. As much as it was fun to get a weekend away without Milo, the one thing we could only think about was him.
