Your flight gets in late and you have only one day to explore South Florida. Where to go? What to do? From the night life, the restaurants to the beaches, Miami has it all!
Every time we go to Miami, Will Smith’s song Miami comes to mind and it puts us in that Southern Florida mood.
Driving from the Miami International Airport will take you roughly half hour, if traffic is good. We rented a car from the airport and took the 195 W to South Beach. We stayed at the Royal Palm South Beach Miami, which is the perfect location. It’s right on the beach, has a great pool and beach access. The rooms are a fair size, and the ones that do have balconies are tiny, but just enough room to sit out and take in that gorgeous ocean view. Bikes, beach towels and chairs are included in your stay, but you have to pay $20USD for an umbrella, which is essential to shade you from that hot Miami sun.
We love just walking up and down the beach, hearing the ocean waves crash, and looking at all the beautiful people! Beach time is good for the soul, body and mind!
After a full day of fun on the beach, we showered up and headed to Wynwood Walls, which is about a 20 minute drive back to the mainland. Wynwood was once an industrial area in Miami that has been transformed into a major graffiti and street art installation. It’s a great way to spend a couple hours walking around the district. Exploring the many murals, shops, cafes and bakeries.
We then headed to an amazing restaurant called KYU (pronounced like the letter “Q”) KYU offers wood-fired, Korean inspired dishes. We ordered the tasting menu, and you better bring an appetite for it. It’s 10 courses of the most popular dishes, and each dish portion sizes gets bigger and bigger! This was seriously one of the yummiest restaurants we have been to in a long time!
That pretty much wrapped up our 24 hours. After dinner it was time to head back to the airport and make our way home. It’s only a tiny snapshot of what Miami has to offer. Next time we come back it will be minimum a week!
